The Fight for the Civil, Human and Immigrants Rights

Earlier this year delegates across the world held a meeting at the head quarters of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose was to kick off talks and negotiation regarding migrants. The issue of immigration has become a global problem in generation of years.

By virtue of humanity and according to the law, immigrants are entitled to human rights, immigration does not make them any less human. However, the law or virtue is not respected in many countries.

The international law does not fully guarantee all the humanly rights. Crossing the border requires sufficient clarity and a pile of paperwork. The introduction of international migrants bill of rights has however improved the situation.

The bill of rights now serves as a resource for advocates, migrants, and international organizations in the fight for human rights. Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), is a good example of these organizations.

Recently, CHIRLA and Frontera Fund’s fight on human rights paid off after United States president Donald Trump assured on re-open immigration cases. With more than 1,300 cases reopened there has been relief on the positive approach towards immigration issue. In the year 2011, retired president Obama had prioritized the deportation of felons and all immigrants with misdemeanors and only leaving those who posed no threat.

Expert’s recommendation on Immigrants cases

In case an immigrant is to meet with the jury, below are some tips to take note:

  • In case the jury decides to reopen your case, it is important to gather as much evidence as possible in defense of your case.
  • Never miss court appearances. Failure to appear will work on the prosecutor’s advantage to give excuse on absentia. Therefore, you will risk deportation.
  • Preparedness to engage the immigration attorney is very necessary.
  • It is necessary for the immigration authorities to have your address just in case there will be need for communication.

Finally, majority of immigrants defending themselves individually in court end up losing due to lack of clarity and effectiveness in defending themselves. For this reason, Frontera fund works on fighting for immigrants and migrants not capable to defending their rights individually. Services of such an organizations are a key aspect to note.
